All Hallow's Eve

I thought this had the creepy, spooky feel of Halloween.  Sort of Hitchcock-esque even. Click for a larger view Happy Halloween everyone!

The Sparrow Fled

Image
I don't know what kind of bird last inhabited this old structure but I like to think it was a sparrow. Click for a larger view Sparrows are said by many cultures and beliefs to be Psychopomps. Psychopomp means the "guide of souls"; they are creatures, spirits, angels or what have you, whose responsibility is to escort newly deceased souls to the next life.  According to the ancient Egyptians sparrows caught the soul of a person recently deceased and carried it to the afterlife.  In many European cultures, a sparrow flying into the home is said to be a sign of impending death. In this case, the sparrow fled.

Tree In Fall

I really like fall and sometimes the simplest thing will make me smile.  There's something about this tree with the colors of the leaves and semi-bare branches that I like. Click for a larger view

Simplicity

Image
I do believe in simplicity. It is astonishing as well as sad, how many trivial affairs even the wisest thinks he must attend to in a day; how singular an affair he thinks he must omit. When the mathematician would solve a difficult problem, he first frees the equation of all encumbrances, and reduces it to its simplest terms. So simplify the problem of life, distinguish the necessary and the real. Probe the earth to see where your main roots run. ~~Henry David Thoreau Click for a larger view
